Celebrating the life of
Hoke S. Bouchillon, Jr.
November 07, 1929 - November 25, 2012
Hoke St. Clair Bouchillon, Jr.
Hoke St. Clair Bouchillon, Jr. 83 passed away Sunday night the 25th of November in Savannah, GA. With his family at his side and his wife, Marian, holding him gently. Hoke was welcomed into the arms of the Lord, his most gracious savior. Mr. Bouchillon was born November 7th, 1929 in Savannah, GA the second of three sons to Hoke S. Bouchillon, Sr. and Annie Mae Burnsed Bouchillon of Bryan County. In childhood Mr. Bouchillon lived in Savannah and briefly in Charleston. He graduated from Commercial High School where he was a Captain in the ROTC .
Beginning as a teenager in the auto collision repair field, Hoke found a talent for working with his hands and with people. In 1969 he founded Bouchillon Body Service and immediately embraced the repair of import cars imports were just coming in a big way to the Savannah Area as well as domestics. His quick wit and humor endeared him to his customers and friends and his strength of character brought trust to our repeat customers. He will be sorely missed and his vision, wisdom, and character continues to be alive and well at Bouchillon Collision to this day.
Mr. Bouchillon was a member of the Automotive Service Association serving one term as state President and selected as Outstanding Member statewide in 1977. He was one of the first nine people in the country to be certified by the ASA in both auto paint and auto body repair.
In his younger years Hoke was an avid hunter and spent much of his recreational time hunting with his sons, family and friends. He also became an accomplished golfer. His greatest passion was music. Since he was a young boy he loved the sounds of the guitar and the mandolin. He was a self-taught musician who was able to play any stringed instrument. Over the last three decades Hoke assimilated a collection of guitars, mandolins and other stringed instruments all of which he managed to play and play well. His time playing with friends on Sunday evening and a local band, The Crabettes, was most memorable as he and his wife established strong friendships while playing the old songs and hymns he loved.
Mr. Bouchillon was an active member of Savannah Christian Church where he loved and was loved immensely by his Church family. Prior to joining Savannah Christian, he was a 50 year member of Central Christian Church. Mr. Bouchillon was a member of Central Christian Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Elder and Chairman of the Board.
Mr. Bouchillon leaves behind his wife of 64 years Marian and their five children, Dale Donna Bouchillon, Bonnie Bouchillon, Barbara George Summerell, Joey Christy Bouchillon and Kelly Melissa Bouchillon, seventeen grandchildren, Braydon Lowe, Allen O'Berry, Amy Thomas, Heather Rudolph, Holley Morris, Brian Summerell, Corey Summerell, Jeremy Summerell, Kathryn Summerell, Reagan Rowse, Brandon Bouchillon, Carlyne Stokes, Thaddeus Wheeler, Kelly Bouchillon, Jr., Emmaline Bouchillon, Briggs Bouchillon and Bellamy Bouchillon, and 16 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Fox and Weeks Hodgson Chapel on Tuesday November 27th 5-7 PM.
Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday November 28th at Fox and Weeks, Hodgson Chapel, followed by a private family burial.
Mr. Bouchillon's kind and generous spirit and warm sense of humor was evident in all of his relationships and experienced by those wherever he frequented…from Church, to restaurants to music stores. Mr. Bouchillon's love of his wife and family was evident in a note he left for his family ….."my single greatest blessing was finding Miss Right Marian Bazemore that set the foundation for every good thing that followed." He will be missed -while he waits for us playing his music in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a contribution to Savannah Christian Church or a charitable organization of your choice.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Paul Bradley and Dr. Mohammad Masroor for their years of extraordinary care and friendship. They are also grateful to Dr. Jennifer Yannucci and her caring staff for the treatment they gave him in his final months.

Bouchillon Family, I first met 'Junior' at Ray Clanton Motors when he was a master painter and I was an obnoxious teenager. He treated me as a person and ignored my obvious lack of 'adultness.' He was a genuine, warm and loving person and I have followed with his children since they were teenagers. My prayers are with you all and I like to think he helped me go where I went as an adult by accepting my teenage years as 'phase.' How right he was. Thank him for his understanding and 'professorship' in life. He will be missed by all and especially the 50's teens.

When Dennis and I got married 42 yrs ago we had very little money and couldn't afford to go out to eat. Paying for school and just making ends meet took it all we had. Well We saved up enough to go out to eat at Red Lobster one night. When we got there we ran into the Bouchillons and said our hellos and went to our separate table. We really enjoy our meal and time out. When we were done eating and waiting for our bill, the waitress came to us with the bill but told us it had been paid. We knew who had done it and we were so thankful. That thoughtfulness made a big impression on us and we have tried to pay it forward. Thanks for being a blessing to us so many years ago. God bless Sincerely Shaaron & Dennis

I came to know Mr. Bouchillon and his family through my friendship with his son Joey around 1971 or 1972. He had moved his family to Rio Vista Island where I was raised from my birth. He and his family were very warm, friendly and welcoming to me when Joey and I struck up a friendship which involved lots of time out in our boats with my brother Donnie. I always felt comfortable and welcome when I was in their home. During my high school years I had the pleasure of working part time for Mr. Bouchillon at his automotive repair business. I can remember those days working for him and with Joey and Dale and can see pictures of the things we did, in my mind, even as I write this brief message. Later in life, I remember how glad I was to be able to purchase a very nice, older model Mercedes Benz Coup from him, for my wife in 1998, as I knew what great condition it was going to be in compared to others I might have found. Most recently, during visits I make to Savannah to take care of business I have there and to see my family, I would see Mr. and Mrs. Bouchillon at Savannah Christian where I would go to church with my brother whenever I was back in Savannah. My prayers are with his sweet family as I know they will miss a fine man and a wonderful father very, very much. God bless you all.
